Nancy O'Dell's professional career started in Myrtle Beach South Carolina as an anchor and news reporter for WPDE-TV. O'Dell later became a morning news anchor for WCBD TV and also as an investigative reporter. Her reporting of the ineffective police response in response to DUI cases in Charleston led to an investigation being conducted by the State Law Enforcement Division, which resulted in a new policy from state officials regarding DUI cases. Ms. O'Dell won an award for the Best Report of the Award from the Associated Press for South Carolina's media. O'Dell then worked for NBC's Miami-based station WTVJ-TV as an investigative reporter prior to joining Access Hollywood in the role of co-anchor for the weekend. O'Dell in addition to being the lead anchor for Access Hollywood, also appears on NBC News Today as well Dateline NBC. She was a reporter for events like The Oscars, The Emmys, The Grammys, and The Golden Globe Awards. In addition to co-hosting Pre-ShowArrivals in preparation for The Emmys & The Golden Globes. The other shows she has hosted include the Miss USA pageant, and Miss Universe.
